DESIGN OF LIBRARY AUTOMATION AND MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE.

ABSTRACT

The library automation is currently developing, as the society becomes more dependent on Technology to store and obtain information quickly and effectively there has been increasing concern on how easy access can be made to books for research, or having unhindered access to stored information about research mark or knowledge.

The internet in its ever – evolving state is becoming a serious method of business communication and data transfer worldwide. As students and other institutions and organization beginning to use the internet as a new method for awareness creation and information search, then there comes a need for a website that will provide them with the comprehensive list of the research materials they need. This was what motivated us into embarking on this research work.

Finally, this project was well arranged for layman’s understanding and the window application were designed in pages, but the book collection was limited to computer books and some others.

1.0     Introduction

The Enugu State College of Education (Technical), ESCET Automation Library System aims at providing a comprehensive computerized solution by the needs of the library routines such as data entry, circulation control, catalogue access etc.  The system provides an overall kind of the above said functions and the package is user-friendly and menu driven.

However, special effort has been made during the design and development stage to ensure data integrity and security. This package facilitates fast retrieval of information and error free statistics.

This project was done at Enugu State College of Education (Technical) using visual Basic 6.0 as front end and MS Access 7.0 as back and under window Xp environment.

Information technology is able to facilitate the revolution of changes, which optimize performance and profitability to companies because it provides solution to one of the key business and communication barriers; distance and difficulties associated with crossing them.  Emergence of internet and its technologies has led to the death of distance, and collapsed the entire world into a “Global Village”
