CHAPTER ONE
The Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) slated for 6 months which is a requirement for the completion of my course of study, was undertaken at Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transport, Ilorin. As a student attaché at Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transport, Ilorin, I was exposed to Engineering Practical activities which really bridged between the theories learnt in the classroom and the real world practical applications. I had the opportunity to make use of machines such as the Concrete mixing machine, the Excavator and reinforcement sizes etc.
1.1OBJECTIVE OF SIWES
1.2 SCOPE OF THE REPORT
The scope of work includes the following:
CHAPTERTWO
2.0 INDUSTRIAL/ FIELD EXPERIENCE
2.1 PROJECT
During the period of six month of Industrial Training, I was involved in the construction unit of civil engineering.
I was posted to OSI-OBBO AYEGUNLE ROAD Construction, where I was involved in Earthwork, Construction of drainage.
2.1.1 construction stages
This is the phase that requires the most planning; this is because if you take your time when designing, the actual construction process will be a lot quicker and smoother. Planning at this stage tends to be more basic, they will be asking questions like; will this actually be feasible, or will it cost more than we have. The initial design for the project will be drawn by the Engineer who will have been given a brief of the client and will then from this brief begin design. After the surveyor investigation has been completed, the structural engineer designs for the reinforcement and grade of concrete to be used for the construction project. The structural engineer designs for the maximum loading envisaged that the pavement would carry and at the same time consider the cost of construction.
