Abstract

This study examines some factors influencing students achievement in their choice of career in senior secondary schools in Obio/Akpor local government Area in Rivers State. This study is focused on whether parents' interest, socioeconomic status and career advises influenced the achievement of student’s in senior secondary school. The instrument used for the study is questionnaire constructed by the researcher. The items on the questionnaire are designed to elicit information on such variables as parent’s educational background, factors that influences student’s achievement in the choice and their personal opinions.Results were calculate in chi-square statistical analysis and tables.Findings were that parents' interest, market, and socioeconomic status influence the achievement of student’s choice of career in education.Based on the findings, it was recommended that guidance and counseling programs be organized for the parents and students.
