THE CARGO TRACKING SYSTEM A CASE STUDY OF MARITIME ACADEMY NIGERIAN, ORON
CHAPTER ONE
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
This research projects is a basic work for cargo tracking system to trace the movement of goods on transits in a container using an embedded information technology and mobile information technology to monitor goods transported in air, land and sea to track the movement of goods from the sources, where and when to expect the container and finally when the goods reached the destination.
Cargo tracking system uses global position system (GPS) receiver, microcontroller and GSM modem to track and trace the movement and location of goods from the source to the user/owner. Cargo tracking system uses global position system (GPS) receiver, micro controller and GSM modem to track and trace the movement and location of goods from source to the user /owner
1.1 NEEDS FOR ICT IN CARGO TRACKING SYSTEM
ICT (information communication technology is often used as an extended synonym for information technology (IT) but is usually a more general term but stresses the role of unified communication using telephone line wireless signal, computer, storage and audio-visual systems, which enable users to create access, store transmit and manipulate information. In order word, ICT consist of telecommunication broadcast media, all types of audio and video processing and transmission and network based control and monitoring function. This expression was first used in 1997 in a report by Dennis Stevens on the impact of information and communication technology in business, transportation in cargo business.
1.2 THE IMPACT OF ICT IN BUSINESS
Terms of commerce’s organization and fleet management is to aims at providing a deeper understanding of the issues, challenges and opportunities to make situation exist in information and opportunities to make situation exist in information and communication technology and it applicable over various year.
This changed will caused for individual, organization for industries the communication technology has challenge file containing drawing of people and things on physical boundaries a distances, speed and communication on how we live, work, learn, communicate and monitor movement.
1.3 MOTIVES BEHIND ICT IN BUSINESS
1.4 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEMS
Cargo tracking systems have been facing problems of improving recovery of lost and misplaced container. Hence other statement includes:
Theft and insurance lost
Server problem
These are the significant of the study.
(1) Generally the projects will assist the customer to improve customers service and responsiveness: to improve customer services and responsiveness is the process of observing when things go wrong with the customer, solving the problems , giving the customer exactly what he or she wants acknowledge the customers’ need, take action and then communicate regularly with the customer.
1.6 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The objectives of this research work are as follows:
1.6.1. TOOLS
Database (to design the database web base) this MS access database application will be created in response to the client request for as database to keep track of its cargo. This using a powerful client server application to keep track of entire warehouse until it was delivered to their customer.
1.7 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
The cargo tracking work is face by number of challenges; such as lack of materials and agencies for proper documentation. Not withstanding, we are able to explore many other sources that covered this research topic. This justified the credibility of this work
1.7.1 PROGRAMMING RESOURCES
Visual Basic (VB) is the programming resources that will be used to design and develop the software quickly by drawing and arranging the user elements, for the respective task.
Ms access will be used at the backend as a database management system to cater for the creation handling requirement of the system proposed.
1.8 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
This research project will only cover the major area of the cargo office’s problems and its remedies. We will also limit our research to cargo office, due to problems of insufficient finance, lack of time and material.
1.9 DEFINITION OF TERMS USED IN THE STUDY
