CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
Later in the years Nigeria as a country failed to react to the rapid advancement in technology until 1986, she realized that in both economy and technology she was under developed, she was dependent on the developed countries for survival, because many thing are being important from those countries. Attempt made to solve these problem include, introduction of the structural adjustment programme (SAP) and the war against indiscipline and corruption (WACI). These bodies prohibited the importation of some goods, there by building the inspiration on our people to embrace indigenous technology. This led to significant achievement in the field of technology of this country.
Since this great achievement has made engineer, scientist and technologist in this country were able to join efforts both mentally and manually into production and research programmes. One of the fruits of their contributed effort was the invention of the bench shearing machine.
The bench shearing machine is manually operated, it can be useful in work shops or factories.
In fact this product is aimed at providing a close substitute to the famous Japan made bench shearing machine.
It is worthy to note that this bench shearing machine is designed and fabricated using our locally available materials to show the important of copy technology.
PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
The fabrication of bench shearing machine is to reduce, alleviate and to eliminate suffering, time, money, energy, and waste of material and more especially the need for technological break through and self reliance which has been major concern of the federal government.
Right from time immemorial metal shearing has been a very great problem in the society.
To help eradicate this problem this project write up has delved into simplicities and construction of bench shearing machine that can be use to cut up to 4mm sheet of mild steel plate with a treated blade made up of high carbon steel.
The machine is manually operated with handle known as the effort, the longer length of handle helps it to increase its output towards the work piece the material example mild steel, dead mild steel or aluminum alloys.
