ANALYZED SOME SUITABLE WAYS TO DESIGN SOIL CONSERVATION MEASURES WHICH WILL SOLVE THE GULLEY EROSION PROBLEM AT UYO VILLAGE ROAD, UYO AKWA IBOM STATE
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
The term measure in this context means the different techniques, procedure used in solving erosion problem; therefore, soil conservation measure is the technique used in solving problem of soil erosion either by water, wind, flood problem Anthony Y. (1989).
Soil erosion by water happens to be the major problem that affect major and minor roads in Akwa Ibom State. This problem is compounded at time during road constitution considering the important of any major road and the magnitude of erosion affecting such roads, hence the road is de for conservation measure Bosworther and Foster (1982).
In the pass years the nature of soil erosion has been given serious annual maintenance operation; but at the end of each operation the will immediately be destroyed by erosion due to poor maintenance culture or inadequate maintenance, improper or wrong design/construction. Causing more gulley along the sides and width section of the road Hama, I. D. (1983).
1.2 THE OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
The objective of the study are;
1.3 Statement of Problem
Gully erosion is one of the major constraints facing the people living along Uyo village road/Ntak Inyang road. It also affects farming operation in that area. The gully erosion in hydra remove erosion which started as a result of the erosion high slope, overflow of runoff from the natural channel, poor design of control measures and construction of channels and culvert. Son the existing erosion control measure are not properly designed due to lack of appropriate engineering approach to solving the erosion problem. This research would therefore employ systematic engineering procedures like surveying, designing of appropriate erosion control structures in order to control the menace of Gully erosion on Uyo village road.
1.4 Scope and Limitation
This research would be limited to small area.
