CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
A good management starts with planning; planning is one of the four interesting functions of management. How ever, we can see planning as the initial management function. This project work is therefore designed to bring to the greater understanding of the role played by planning on organizational success. To think of planning as locomotive that direct the training of an organization, leading and controlling activities (Chadima, D. C. 2005).
Think of planning as the taproot of a great magnificent Oak tree from which grows the branches of organizing, directing, leading and controlling. Without planning, managers cannot lead with confidence or expect others to follow without plan, managers and their subordinates have little chance of achieving goals compared with designed results against actual results and take corrective measure if they are not on target, that is control. If the was deviation in the past, future plan must be corrected.
Planning is developing dependable solutions, planning is the formation and development of the blue print we expect. Planning is the most basic and pervasive function of the management, every manager take decision and prepare plans. However, the nature and scope of planning varies from one level of management to the other.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The increased number of organization failing and winding up due to uncertainty and complicity in management constitutes major problems in every organization. This requires a lot of work to be done. Hence the need for planning is very essential and necessary. In view of the above the question is can any organization survive without planning? In order to measure up with competitors, advancement in technology, organization shave invested a lot in the area of planning.
1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
