ABSTRACT

The main aim of this study was to examine newspaper readership among students in Akwa Ibom State University, Obio Akpa Campus. Based on the above, the survey method was adopted for the study. Uses and gratification theory was adopted for the study. The population for the study was students in Akwa Ibom State University, Obio Akpa Campus which were 3,732. Using Taro Yamane’s formula, the sample size for the study was 361. The instrument used for this study was questionnaire. The findings revealed that majority of students in Akwa Ibom State University, Obio Akpa Campus read newspaper occasionally for information and the challenge student face in the process of accessing newspaper is lack of newspaper stand in the school. Hence, the study recommends that newspaper publishers should make provision for newspaper stand were student can have access to newspaper.
